It’s time to wake up and change

Thoughtful

It’s time to wake up and change. It’s time to change ourselves, our family, and our society. This change has to start with us also.

You cannot guess the sorrow until it is yours. Today that sounds true. What is the misery of a daughter only her parents know. Nowadays the atrocities against the girls irrespective of their age are increasing in multi-folds. Every corner seems to be unsafe and that sense is also increasing every day. What should we do to make the place safe?

Now, it is time to change. If we really want to change this situation. Then we should change ourselves. The parents need to change their mentality towards the girl and boy child. The mentality of society needs to be changed by education. Nowadays the tv soaps entertain and affect society. The type of TV soaps and movies needs to be changed towards making a better society for girls.

The Crime against Girls and Women

If we see the numbers of crimes against girls or women in India, then our country stood in fourth place in the world. It seems that crime has become very common in India. We should feel ashamed of this. According to the NCR report 37356 crime cases have been registered in India in 2018. More than 90 rapes occur every day in India. And almost every 15 minutes a woman is raped. These numbers are only which have been reported. There are thousands of cases that do not even go to the police and the people do not even know.

The crime against women is not only limited to rape. It is from the mental and physical torture from husband, in-laws and relatives to stalking and vulgar comments by society. There is no limit to these crimes. Even in a very well educated and established families also the crimes against women cannot be neglected.

Where is the problem? Whether it is due to the difference between educated and un-educated. Or is it limited to only villages and not cities. Whether it is only limited to some states or regions. But if see the crime against women is crossing all these boundaries. A well educated and an un-educated person or family both commits crimes against women. It is not limited to village or cities. It is everywhere. So, what we are lacking, that it is not getting stopped.

The common thinking of “All the fault is that of the Girl”

Despite all the crimes against a girl or woman. The girl (or woman) always remains silent. Because she feels that no one will trust her. Everyone will say that it happens due to the fault of the girl. The rape and other atrocities against the girls have not been done for the first time in India. It has been done before also.

And we have done some candle march to show our anger. But why again and again these crimes are happening in our society. Because during candle march only we think of that girl with whom the crime has happened. But other times for any fault we blame the girls only without thinking properly.

The role of parents

Even the parents also started giving big lectures and scolding to girls for any small fault due to their fear and anger. Like tomorrow nothing bad should happen to my girl. But whether this thinking has helped us? The love for their daughters pushed every parent to keep a check on them.

Actually, this love has seeded a fear in every parent’s mind and psyche. But if we see that a plant under the shade of darkness will not grow and eventually become weak. Even a weaker plant is easily infested by small insects. B

ut if the same plant is grown in the light of the sun i.e courage and wisdom then the plant will become a big and healthy tree that can protect herself. Therefore, each parent should give their daughters the light of courage and wisdom, they should not impose their fear on them.

What society has to do

Once the crime has been done, the girl has lost her life either by the crime or the indirect crime by society. And some of the culprits gets the punishment or others come out of the loophole of the justice system. What our justice system and government does is within a perimeter.

But as a society, it is having a great power which can give direct support to the victim’s family. Indirectly a society is having tremendous power of providing mental strength to the girl and their family.

A society mentality will have a tremendous power to suppress any kind of criminal activities and further strengthen the mental strength of the girls. The society starts with neighborhood to colonies and eventually a town and to state and complete country. So, this revolution is to start with neighborhoods.

We are not Weak- One line for every girl

We are not weak. We are also the creation of gods. Even women are manifestation of the power of the god. We the women are the creator of the life. The very life which every one wants. Then how we can be so weak. Our thinking has made us weak. The mental boundaries of what others will say make us weak. Speaking not against the bad since the elders are telling is becoming weak.

The day when we stand against a small feeling of molestation will show our real power. A crime is a crime. Even a small crime paves the path to a big crime. So, even the small crime is to be stopped. IF you will not stand for yourselves, then if somebody wants to help you also will not come forward. So, please stand for yourself first. If you are true then good people will come forward for you. And if you are silent, then it will be considered as your agreement to that.

We should shine bright like stars. If we feel strong then only we grow. There are many examples of women who lived to their dreams without fear. Girls you should not depend on others like

  • Kalpana Chawla – First Indian Woman to go into space.
  • Super Shanti Tigga – First Indian woman to join in the Indian Army
  • Arundhati Bhattacharya – In the 36th slot of Forbes Most Powerful Women
  • Kunjarani Deve- Most celebrated Indian woman in weight lifting

 And Lastly – YOU.

If these women can reach the peak of success, can’t you do a small thing? Can’t you raise your voice against the injustice against you? Don’t let them taking advantage of your silence. Fight for your own freedom. And trust me, they won’t even dare to look at you.

Need to change the complete mindset of parents

Hey, don’t dress like that
Come home early
Don’t talk to stranger guys
Don’t drink
Don’t go anywhere alone
Make sure you always with a group of friends
Our honor is in your hands……

These are not the comments by anybody else, but the parents of a girl, that she has to listen to every day.
But by the same parents, who loves equally their sons and daughters, changes for boys:
Hey, Eat on Time and Have Fun!!!!

Wow! We have already made our girls prey and boys a predator from the home itself.

Just you think if these sentences are interchanged. Doesn’t it will make a change in society where the girls can also live with equal dignity and fearlessness like boys.

If the parents start telling this to their boys, like:
Respect the women you meet
Don’t hit any women
Don’t stare at them and make any comments
Don’t pass vulgar and rude comments
Eve teasing is not an okay timepass
Don’t drink and do stupid things
Our honor is in our hands

Then the society will change. If a boy committing any crime is not spared by parents then the society will be a safe place to live.

The truth is for years, we have been teaching women – “Don’t instigate boys to get raped”. But the number of rapes has not fallen. But if we start teaching the men “Don’t rape and give respect to women” then the statistics will really change.

The above is based on my thoughts on reducing crime against women. By this blog, I like to know your suggestions and points also. Together we can make a good society. Please treat this as not my blog site but a place for healthy and constructive discussion for the betterment of society.
