Whether Stress is Good or Bad for us?

Thoughtful

Whether Stress is good or bad for us? The topic itself at first seems to be very clear that, stress is bad for us. But if we say correctly stress is both good as well as bad for us. Sometimes life takes a good shape because of stress and sometimes it breaks under it. It is the way we are going to handle it.

If we ask anyone, that if life is possible without stress, then answer is “No”. There is no way that we will never feel stress in our life. But how do we handle it depend on us. Like a miniature piezoelectric crystal gives useful electrical power under stress, whereas a big frame of glass easily breaks down under a small stress.

What is Stress?

Stress- an unpleasant feeling, we feel when it challenges our ability. When we are doubtful of our ability to do it, then we feel stressed. Stress causes an imbalance in our thought power. At different stages of life, in different situations, we feel a different kind of stress.

  1. Suppose we love someone and he /she doesn’t love us. We feel like to do everything to get his/her love. Then, we will feel stressed. It challenges our ability to get it.

2. The completion of work in the office depends on the support of our colleagues, juniors, and bosses. However, all these will not go favorably many times. And the commitment and work suffer. This induces work-related stress to meet targets.

3. Stress of getting grades in school exams induces a lot of stress in students. The parents and teachers put a lot of expectations on students to get good grades. This expectations induces a lot of stress.

4. If we want to do something in our life. However, our family don’t support and even put restrictions to achieve. In this situation we feel stressed.

When our children don’t study well, relationship is not good at home, financial instability, always fight at home, unhappy with job, salary will induce stress. So, stress can be caused by anything which is associated with us.

Sometimes Stress are also Good

Stress is always not bad. Sometimes stress gives positive results in life, like

  1. Sometimes a child promises himself /herself that this time he/she will score better in exams. To prove himself/herself better he/she will take stress in a positive way, which is constructive.

2. If we want to do something great in our life. That thing may be our ambition. Then to work towards that by self-motivation induce a positive stress. This will help us to achieve our target and reaffirms our confidence on our self.

What is Overthinking? How it affects us?

Sometimes the situation is under control, but there is a sense of that we will not be able to do this. This feeling gives a wrong sense that situation is not in our control. By this we feel stressed. Actually overthinking will overburden us with our own stressful thoughts. It will not help to solve the matter, but gives an unpleasant feeling about the work.

The 4 causes of stress

Frustration – When the sign of comparison i.e greater than or less than, replaces each other between expectation and reality, then that equation gives frustration. When we get less than expected for which we have worked a lot, then we feel frustrated. The getting may be physical entity like money or mental satisfaction by appreciation.

Conflict – It is the state of confusion that gives rise to stress. When we don’t like to do a job, but due to family commitments and responsibilities we have to do. This cause a conflict in our work and mental state, which induces stress.

Change – The unchanged rule of life is the Change. We are most stressed when we are not ready for a change. Change mean anything which pushes us out of our comfort zone. Like changes in or due to studies, relationship, job, partner, marriage, children, money, anything.

Pressure – This actually suffices the very cause of stress. There are two types of pressure :

One that society or some person puts on us due to their expectations on us,

And other one is that we expects from our-self.

Talking about the first type, it is associated with the pressure put by parents on the children for getting good grades, a boss expectations from his employee, like many. This type of pressure put the person under stress to mold and behave accordingly to the other person’s expectations. The pressure always induces the stress on the person under it. When the pressure is external, and the person under it tries to do as expected. Then, actually he / she has to behave and do the things which will not be natural to them. And any unnatural things will create tension, and state of confusion and leads to negative stress, which will have detrimental effect on them.

The second type of pressure is a very good one. This pressure originates within a person, and is a strong motivation or powerful force to move them forward. By this type of pressure they reach unexpected higher heights. Like if a person thinks that he/she will work to make his/her identity. Or, he/she will work to be the best and feel his/her family proud and happy. Then, this induces a positive stress. This gives a wonderful sense of freedom and creativity.

What to do to be happy in life?

That’s why work to express yourself, not to impress anybody. When we are not getting appreciated for our work, then always feel that every job gives us experience. And finally when the time support us these experience due to work will gives us powerful wings to fly very high.

Always be away from egoistic thoughts, because ego is the enemy of the good thoughts and it gives us a sense of anger. The anger is that fire that it first kills us rather before hurting others.

Do not get disheartened by small neglections. When the time do not support us and we suffer then it is a vey good indication that God has identified us the strongest and unbeatable warrior for a big war. Life is never about winning or losing, it is always about learning from good as well as bad experiences. This thoughts will keep us motivated and achieve higher unexpected heights in life.

Ways to reduce Stress

  1. Put positive seeds of exercise – A Giant tree once will be a small seed. When you put positive seeds in your daily life, then you can always think good. A good thought needs a healthy, creative and happy brain. For a happy brain regular exercise which increases blood circulation and oxygen is very helpful in handling everyday stress.

2. What should we eat – Alcohol, cigarettes, stop it all. Stop any other intakes which clogs our blood circulation or affects brain capability. Stale food, packed food, junk food, processed food makes brain dull. Our mind behaves what we eat. If we take natural foods like green leafy vegetables then, we can think good things.

3. Where to get peace of mind – Join Satsang, read good books like Bhagvat Gita. You do whatever makes you feel happy. Read whatever gives you happiness. Do the things that gives you pleasure. See the things what gives you feel happy. Then ultimately you will feel happy and stress free.

4. Healthy Life Style – Live the life what your mind and body tells you. Many of us feels stressed because we are living a fake life of showing off. When we will be true to our self and do not feel what others think of us. Then we will be out of the boundary of stress. Live a free life, because life is only yours.

5. Sleep Properly – What ever we do, we feel and react will be done by our brain only. So, give our brain a good rest to rejuvenate to think , do and react properly. Sleep like a baby i,e tension free for atleast 8 hours. Avoid oversleeping, because anything in excess is always harmful. Because sleep not only keep your brain healthy, but also your body also. The relation between brain and body is like a vicious circle. If your health is not good, then brain will not be in a good mood, which again affects the health in a negative way. So, sleep properly.

I hope that this blog may feel you stress free and gives you sense of freedom. If you also have some points to add, you are always welcome to comment at the bottom of this blog.
